The New "Independant Driving Test" becomes active on Monday 4th October 2010.
So what is it? whats it all about? Are they making the test even harder?
Relax and read on.......
At some point during your driving test, you will be asked to pull up at a convienent place. You will then be either shown a Very Basic Schemetic drawing (map), with 3 different junctions or turnings, or given a traffic road sign to follow. It may be a combination of the 2. And then your examiner will ask you to repeat the instructions back to him so he knows you have understood the request and you have a idea of where you are heading to.
Once that is completed and you've reached your destination, you will then be asked to do the same thing again.
This aspect of the driving test only lasts about 10 minutes, If you forget your instructions dont worry, you are able to ask the examiner to try and keep on the right route.
The driving test will still last the same time 38 -45 minutes.
The price is still the same, that has not changed £62.00
If you make a wrong turn= you will not fail (providing you have carried thru your M.S.P.S.L routine in order)
If you ask for the directions again= you will not fail.
If you are Dyslxic or any other kind of impairment DECLARE THIS WHEN BOOKING YOUR TEST. The examiners are there to help you.
If English is'nt your first language you are allowed to have a interpretuer on the test with you ( it can now be your instructor) Did you know that????
On the plus side, there will be only one manoeuvre to do now instead of 2
The reason for the "independant driving test" is to give you (a recently passed driver) a little more freedom when driving
YOU WILL MAKE YOUR OWN DECISIONS AND JUDGMENTS
The examiners want to know that you can drive own your, Concentrate on: the road and its other users, and also continue with your M.S.P.S.L routine.

Have trust in your instructor, The fact is all instructors have an identification Number (adi Number)this goes on the official score sheet at the start of your test, And then the DSA gain statistics upon them, if they constantly put pupils through who are not ready for the test they will call the instructor back in for a retest ( we call it a "check test") of his instructing skills. If he does'nt pass he can no longer teach.
